New life for a forgotten community
Forty years ago, the Mock Road community was thriving. Business flourished, new homes were built,
homeownership was encouraged, and the area was perceived as safe.
Then, like many inner-city neighborhoods, the area experienced job and population loss due to
suburban flight; became void of business investment and capital resources; its existing housing
stock deteriorated; and, the area became a haven of crime.
Recognizing this decline to blight, Living Faith Apostolic Church accepted the challenge to bring a positive
change to its surrounding neighborhood. Hence, the vision of Faith Center International (or FCI) was birthed.
For over 20 years, Living Faith, through its development arm, MiraCit, has worked to revitalize the Mock Road
community in northeast Columbus, Ohio. With the support of its many public and private-sector partners, MiraCit
has taken to task the seemingly impossible, by developing 300+ new and rehabilitated homes and apartments where
blighted properties once stood; developing a stellar K-12 charter school, FCI Academy, and childcare center, FCI, Too Early
Learning Academy; generating over 125 new jobs; developing the FCI Plaza shopping center and the new FCI
Marketplace Save A Lot grocery; revitalizing its local parks with new walking trails, picnic shelters, and sports facilities;
as well as addressing public service needs.
